How to Handle Mulch

.) Bark should not be piled higher than 15 feet.

.) Bark should (if possible) be stored on asphalt or concrete surface. Three sided bins are nice but makes it difficult to use the first in first out method of inventory control.

.) If it is not possible to store Bark Mulch on a hard surface, try not to dig up dirt with the loader bucket when loading or moving Bark Mulch. Put down a bed of wood chips. A few wood chips in the bark are more acceptable to your customer than dirt and rocks.

.) Always store Bark Mulch in the same place (location) and away from wet areas.

.) Try not to drive on Bark Mulch- better to rake the loading area in front of the pile daily.

.) During the season, twice daily turn the side of the Bark Mulch pile facing the public so it will maintain a fresh look and color.

.) You should loosen the Bark Mulch before loading, otherwise, you will be selling compressed bark and thereby your customers will be getting more yardage than they paid for. Remember that a yard of bark weighs 500-700 pounds.

.) Loosen by scooping up a bucket of bark twice and dumping it before taking a scoop for loading.
